Der italienische fotorealistische Maler Bernardi mit Spezialisierung auf Stillleben und die aus England stammende auf fotorealistische Stadtansichten spezialisierte Malerin Spence arbeiten seit 2006 gelegentlich an gemeinsamen Projekten. Auf dem vorliegenden großformatigen Gemälde päsentiert das Paar einen Ausstellungsraum, in dem eine junge in Rückenansicht gezeigte Frau das Gemälde „Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer“ des Malers Caspar David Friedrich von ca. 1818 (Hamburger Kunsthalle) betrachtet. Dabei nimmt die blonde Frau in auffälligem Oberteil bewußt oder unbewußt die gleiche Pose ein wie der Wanderer, jedoch nach rechts gewendet und nicht nach links wie der junge Mann über den Wolken. Auf diese Weise erzeugen die Künstler eine gekonnte und interessante Verschränkung, während der ansonsten nicht genauer charakterisierte Raum sich zu den Seiten in die Unendlichkeit zu erstrecken scheint. Durch die hyperrealistische Wiedergabe kann sich der Betrachter dabei ertappt fühlen, wie er selbst die dritte Rolle in dieser Bild-Betrachter-Verschachtelung einnimmt. (1100148) (12)

Roberto Bernardi, an Italian Photorealism painter specialising in still life painting and English painter Raphaella Spence, a specialist in photorealistic city views have worked together on several projects since 2006.
In the large format painting offered in this lot the artists depict an exhibition space showing the back view of a young woman that is looking at the painting “Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer” [Wanderer above the Sea of Fog] by Caspar David Friedrich (Hamburger Kunsthalle) from ca. 1818. The blonde woman dressed in a striking top, consciously or subconsciously assumes the same pose as the young hiker above the clouds in Friedrich's painting except that she is turned to the right while he is turned to the left. As a result, the artists skilfully create an interesting interconnection between the two, while the surrounding space is unidentifiable and appears to stretch endlessly to either side. Due to the hyperrealism of this depiction we can now assume the third stage of this link between painting and viewer.
