Schifano zählt zu den wichtigsten italienischen Künstlern des Postmodernismus. Mit Tano Festa(1938-1988) und Franco Angeli (1935-1988) gehörte er zur Kerngruppe der „Scuola Romana“. Seine Gemälde konzentrieren sich oftmals nur auf ein bis zwei Farben.
Auch auf dem vorliegenden großformatigen Gemälde arbeitet der Künstler mit einer deutlich erweiterten Palette. Vor einem schwarz-blauen Fond heben sich in kräftigen kontrastierenden Tönen die stilisierten Stengel, Blüten und Blätter von Wasserpflanzen ab, die in wilden Wirbeln eine vibrierende Oberfläche kreieren.

Schifano is one of the most important Italian Postmodern artists. In his paintings he often works with a reduced palette of just one or two colours. In the present large-format composition the artist works with a noticeably broader colour scheme.
