Man erkennt bei diesem exquisiten Gemälde - das für rein private Zwecke geschaffen wurde und den Betrachter sofort emotional berührt - deutlich das stilistische Imprinting von Federico Barocci. Die zarten fast pastellhaften Farben und das nachdrückliche Pathos gehören untrennbar zu diesem großen italienischen Meister des beginnenden Seicento. Dieses Heiligenbild folgt derart genau der Vorlage verschiedener anderer Christusköpfe, die Barocci in den Jahren um die Jahrhundertwende malte, sodass man davon ausgehen kann, dass dieses Gemälde im direkten Kontakt mit den Werken Baroccis, also in den Werkstätten des Meisters entstand. Besonders deutlich wird dies im Vergleich mit dem Christusantlitz des „Crocifisso“ im Museo del Prado in Madrid (1602) und vor allem anhand des „Letzten Abendmahls“ im Dom von Urbino (1599 fertiggestellt), die beide dem uns vorliegenden Gemälde fast zur Gänze gleichen.
