(1080141) (12)

Console and mirror by Carlo Bugatti,
1865-1940
Height: ca. 260 cm.
Width: 111 cm.
Depth: 38 cm.
Milan, early 20th century.

Bugatti’s early furniture is usually asymmetric in structure and shows the influence of Japanese art, a popular trend in Western Art at the time. Both of these features can be found in the prestigious piece of furniture presented in this lot. The console table is oriental in style with partially painted black fine woods and mother-of-pearl and metal inlays. The parchment-lined panel at the back is painted with exotic landscape motifs featuring birds and palms. Every element of the frame has been elaborately moulded and turned. The rectangular mirror is surmounted with asymmetric finials. With minor damage, signs of ageing and wear; restored.

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
