In aufpeitschenden Wogen ein schrägliegendes Segelschiff, links vor einem hochragenden Felsen ein bereits untergegangenes Schiff, von dem nur noch die Mastspitze aus den Wellen hervorragt. Im Vordergrund vor einem Felsen als Repoussoir mehrere Seeleute, die sich ans Ufer gerettet haben. Über der Szenerie dramatischer gut gemalter Wolkenhimmel.
