(1061494) (21)

THE VIRGIN AND CHILD WITH SAINT JOSEPH AND SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST AS A BOY
Oil on panel.
60 x 43 cm.
Giovanni Cambiaso, Luca Cambiaso’s father, is mentioned in “Le vite de’ Pittori, Scultori et architetti Genovesi”, Genua 1674, by Raffaello Soprani. This is one of the most important historical source texts on Ligurian painting of the 16th and 17th centuries.
The offered painting was probably created ca. 1545 and shows clear similarities with Giovanni's other famous work, namely Polittico dell'Ascensione in the parish church of the small Ligurian village of Breccanecca in the remote area of Chiavari and which he painted at the same time.
