Flemish Gobelin tapestry
278 x 192 cm.
Oudennarde, 17th century.

Depicting the education of the young Bacchus. The finesse and high quality craftsmanship of this tapestry suggests it originates from a workshop in Oudennarde in the late 17th century. The innovative design corresponds with tapestry cartoons by Antwerp painters such as Pieter Spieringckx (1635 – 1711) and Louis van Schoor (1666 – 1726) and the overall style is consistent with the work of famous manufactories in the Oudennarde and Antwerp regions. The tapestry woven to a very high standard in wool and silk. Lined with linen.
