Wie sein Bruder Raoul Dufy (1877 – 1953) schilderte auch Jean die angenehmen Seiten des Pariser Lebens mit seinen Flaneuren, Parks und Zirkusdarbietungen. Auf dem vorliegenden Gemälde zeigt er in lockerem Duktus Reiter im Bois de Boulogne, die sich in ihrer schnellen Gangart bald aus dem Gemälde herauszubewegen scheinen. (1061031) (12)

Signed lower left. Stencil of paint manufacturer “Blanchet, Paris” on the reverse.
A copy of a certificate by Jacques Bailly, 2014 is enclosed (not yet available when catalogue went to print).
Just like his brother Raoul Dufy (1877 – 1953) Jean also depicted Paris life with its perambulators, parks and circus shows. The riders racing through the Bois de Boulogne are rendered in loose brushstrokes, giving the impression they are about to lift off the surface of the painting.
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
