Battista de Luteri,
um 1490 – 1548, Werkstatt Dossi

Die vorliegende Tafel, welche das Urteil des Paris darstellt, nimmt die Bildidee wieder auf, welche Marcantonio Raimondi (um 1480 - 1527) in seinem berühmten Stich verwirklichte, welcher wiederum auf eine Zeichnung Raffaels (1483 - 1520) zurückgriff, die heute verloren ist. Die Platte vermutlich oben und rechts gekürzt, einige Retuschen.

Von diesem in den 1980er Jahren in Bremen erworben.

Ein ähnliches Gemälde in einer französischen Privatsammlung wird von Cuzin mit um 1540 datiert (Cuzin, 1983, S. 49).

Prof. Dr. Ulrike Müller-Hofstede, Berlin, scheidet die an dem Gemälde beteiligten Hände wie folgt: Während sie die zentralen Figuren dem Meister selbst zuschreibt, teilt sie die äußeren Figuren aufgrund ihrer Physiognomie einem Schüler zu. Die Unterzeichnung hingegen spreche wiederum für Dossi selbst. (1042081) (13)

The present panel depicting the Judgment of Paris, reprises the idea developed in an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi, who had himself based it on a now lost drawing by Raphael. The panel has probably been cut along the top and right; with some retouching.

Prince of Lippe, who acquired the painting in the 1980s in Bremen.

Notes:
Prof Dr Ulrike Müller-Hofstede, Berlin, distinguishes those involved in the creation of the painting as follows: the central figures are attributed to the master himself, but she ascribes the outer figures to a student because of their physiognomy. The signature, however, is further evidence of Dossi’s hand.
