Am Unterrand des Bildes in brauner Tuschfederschrift bezeichnet, datiert und signiert „Hudson. f. this one Day of June 1743/ George Friederic Handel“.
Hinter Glas in vergoldetem Rahmen mit bekrönendem Muscheldekor.

Beigegeben eine ausführliche Dokumentation mit Nennung der Vergleichsbeispiele sowie der einschlägigen Literatur.
Bekanntlich existieren vom genannten Maler etliche weitere Porträtbildnisse des Komponisten, jeweils in Öl, so wie etwa in der Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg, das nach einer Radierung von Andrew Miller (um 1690 - 1763) in das Jahr 1747 datiert werden könnte, die Radierung 1749 in Dublin veröffentlicht. Ein weiteres Porträt von Thomas Hudson findet sich in der Sammlung des The Herbert Museum and Art Gallery, Coventry/ England, ferner das Gemälde „Händel an einem Stuhl nach links sitzend“ von 1756, ebenfalls von der Hand Hudsons in der National Portrait Gallery, London.
Das Büttenblatt an beiden Seiten angesetzt, über die Klebenaht ist die Pastellzeichnung weitergeführt. Der bedeutende Komponist (1685 Halle a. d. Saale - 1759 London) der Barockmusik hier im Halbbildnis dargestellt, den Kopf mit weiß gepuderter Perücke nach rechts gewandt, das weiße Halstuch zwischen den Borten des roten Gewandes herabziehend. Auf den Borten Stickornamentik und metallene Knöpfe erkennbar. Der Hintergrund in gedämpftem Aquamarinblau, nach unten dunkler ziehend.

Inscribed, dated and signed “Hudson. f. this one Day of June 1743/ George Friederic Handel” in brown ink along the lower edge.
Framed with glass in gilt frame topped with rocaille ornament.
Accompanied by a detailed report listing comparable examples and relevant bibliographical references.
Works by his hand are held in several public collections
