Maria unter dem Kreuz vor dunklem nächtlichem Hintergrund sitzend, den bärtigen Leichnam mit über dem Leib gekreuzten Händen auf dem Schoß tragend, seitlich rötlich gefärbte Felsen. Das Format in den oberen Ecken abgeschrägt.

Im Katalog von Christie’s, London South Kensington, 11. Juli 2008, Lot 71, sowie von der zugrunde liegenden Expertise von Everett Fahy als ein Spätwerk des Francesco Botticini (1446 - 1497) ausgewiesen.
Laut Christie’s Katalogtext findet sich der Bildaufbau in zwei weiteren Werken von Botticini wieder, einmal im Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris, sowie in unbekannter Sammlung (vgl. Literatur: Lisa Venturini, Francesco Botticini, Florenz 1994, Abb. 98 und 99). (1040104) (11)

The top corners of the painting have been cut off.

Notes:
The painting is described as a late work of Francesco Botticini (1446 - 1497) in the catalogue of Christie’s London South Kensington 11 July 2008 (lot 71) based on the expert's report by Everett Fahy. According to the catalogue description the composition can be found in two other works by Botticini: one at the Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris and the other in an anonymous collection (for comparables see: L. Venturi, Francesco Botticini, Florence 1994, ill. 98 and 99).

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
