Als Vorbild dieser prachtvollen Silberschmiedearbeit diente das Hauptwerk des berühmten Medailleurs und Zinngießers François Briot (um 1550-1616) im 16. Jahrhundert. In der Spiegelmitte die Allegorie der „Temperantia“ (die Mäßigkeit = eine der Kardinaltugenden), seitlich die vier Elemente, dargestellt als römische Gottheiten: Terra = Erde; Nereide = Wasser; Juno = Luft; Vulkan = Feuer. Die Fahne ist wie eine durchbrochenen Spitze gestaltet. Sehr reicher Cabochonbesatz, Perlmutt und Farbsteine. Original Lederetui anbei.

MZ: Later mis-struck, to make the dish look 17th centuryGermany, 19th century.

Very richly encrusted with cabochons, mother-of-pearl and coloured stones. Original leather case included.

Notes:
The Hermitage in St Petersburg also holds a chased silver dish.
