Jahrhunderts entstand. (1020833) (21)

RESTING YOUNG HUNTER WITH DOGS

Oil on canvas.
124 x 174 cm.

Accompanied by an expert’s report by Ferdinando Arisi.

Between the 17th and 18th century Felice Boselli was one of the best still life painters of the Emilia Romagna. He also painted many genre scenes and pastoral landscapes, as with our painting. The four wonderful dogs strike the eye, attesting to Boselli’s great skill as an animal painter. The various killed fowl and the hunter who fits perfectly balanced into the landscape and lastly the tree trunk against the light, are typical of Boselli. Whereas the village in the background is also a characteristic feature in Boselli’s oeuvre, the ruin of a classic temple on the hills behind village is almost unique. Based on stylistic similarities with other hunting still lifes and pastoral scenes by Boselli, it can be assumed that the painting was created in the late 17th century.
