Paolo Anesi,
1697 Rom - 1773, zug.
PA.29), „Paesaggio con casolare e corso d’acqua“ (Besitz unbekannt, ebd., S. 234, Abb. PA.30) und „Veduta fluviale“ (Galleria Doria Pamphilj, Rom, ebd., S. 240, Abb. PA.42).

Pair of paintings
LANDSCAPE WITH STAFFAGE FIGURES
Oil on canvas.
45 x 97 cm each.
Along with Andrea Locatelli, Paolo Monaldi and Alessio De Marchis, Paolo Anesi was one of the most famous landscape painters of the 18th century Roman art scene. In his works, Anesi elegantly and originally combines Roman tastes with influences by Claude Lorrain, Salvator Rosa, Frans van Bloemen and Gaspar van Wittel. Anesi’s characteristic “fantastical views“ are easily identified here and stylistically the present pair of paintings fits perfectly with Anesi's oeuvre in general.
Literature:
Compare A. Busiri Vici, Trittico paesistico romano del ‘700, Rome, 1976.
