Über den in Dänemark geborenen Maler, der nach Rom zog, ist bekannt, dass er 1642 - 1644 in der Werkstatt von Rembrandt in Amsterdam gearbeitet hat und 1651 nach Venedig kam. Auf seinen Reisen zwischen Venedig, Bergamo und Mailand widmete er sich verschiedenen Bildgattungen, vor allem auch dem Portrait, wobei er die Königin Christina von Schweden, die sich damals in Ravenna aufhielt, portraitieren konnte. Letztlich wirkte er ab 1656 in Rom.Knabe mit einem Vogel im Nest Öl auf Eichenholz.
