Giacomo Francesco Cipper, also known as “Il Todeschini”
1664 Feldkirch/ Vorarlberg - 1736 Milan, attributed

BREAD SELLER AND THREE STREET URCHINS

Oil on canvas.
120 x 100 cm.

With the exception of only a few still lifes and animal depictions, Giacomo Francesco Cipper painted almost exclusively every day life scenes. These paintings are humoristic and often show almost caricatural traits. Depictions such as the present example, simple professions or the street trading of foods are common. In this unknown work by Cipper all his stylistic features can be recognized; it can therefore be very well compared with other works such as “Scuola di Musica” (Music Academy) (Proni, 1994, no. 3, p. 43; privately owned), “Venditore di formaggio” (Cheese vendor) (Id. no. 21, p. 81).

Literature:
Compare M. S. Proni, Giacomo Francesco Cipper detto il “Todeschini”, Bergamo, 1994.
