Auf einem bildparallel angelegten Tisch hat der Künstler ein prächtiges Stillleben mit blank polierten Zinntellern mit Kapern, Äpfeln, Orange und Oliven, einer Zitrone, einer gefußten Schale mit Zuckerwerk und kandierten Mandeln, einem Weinkelch, Brotlaib sowie Krabben und Taschenkrebs arrangiert. Rechts hinter der gefußten Schale knabbert ein Mäuschen am heruntergezogenen Zuckerwerk.
Der als Franz Godin geborene deutsche Maler war auf Stillleben spezialisiert und lernte in der Werkstatt des Daniel Soroeau (gest. 1619). Danach siedelte er nach Italien über, wo er seinen Namen italianisierte.
