Entsprechend dem Evangelientext, wonach Jesus bei seinem 40-tägigen Aufenthalt in der Wüste vom Satan in Versuchung geführt wurde. Jesus rechts unter dem Bogen einer Grotte sitzend, weist mit dem Zeigefinger auf die links am Bildrand stehende Satansfigur. Im Hintergrund eine Landschaft mit Wolken, aus denen Luzifer herabstürzt.
