THE TEMPTATION OF JOSEPH
Oil on canvas. Relined.
122 x 129 cm.
Unframed.
The painting is accompanied by a copy of an expert's report by Carlo Volpe.
The painting's composition sets the scene very clearly: the seductive nudity of the female body takes centre stage to highlight Joseph's moral attitude, which he uses to resist the temptation. The soft palette, careful arrangement and an even pictorial composition suggest Gregorio Lazzarini, the teacher of the young Tiepolo, as the painting's creator. There is an obvious borrowing from the late 17th century Venetian Classicism. Comparing the present paining with others by Lazzarini, is consequently easy.
