Giusto Le Court, ein flämischer Bildhauer, der jedoch in der zweiten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts zu einem der beliebtesten Künstler Venedigs avancierte, war bekannt für seine Putten-Figuren. In den Inventarlisten des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts tauchen immer wieder solche ihm zugeschriebene Figuren auf (so auch im Hause des Malers Carl Loth oder bei wichtigen Sammlern wie Manin und Rezzonico). Die hier vorliegende kleine Marmorstatue gehört zu diesem Schaffensbereich von Le Court, der künstlerisch eindeutig von François Dusquenoy beeinflusst wurde. Es handelt sich hier um eine sehr schöne Darstellung, die anderen signierten Werken Le Court sehr ähnelt, wie zum Beispiel dem L’Inverno [Winter] (Ca’ Rezzonico, Venedig) oder dem Gesù bambino in braccio alla Vergine [Jesuskind auf dem Arm der heiligen Jungfrau] des Hauptaltars der Kirche Santa Maria della Salute in Venedig. Das vorliegende Werk wurde eventuell als Pendant zu einem anderen kleinen Bacchus geschaffen, der unserem sowohl im Stil als auch in Beschaffenheit und Form ähnelt und sich heute in Privatbesitz befindet (siehe U. Schlegel, Notizen zu italienischen Skulpturen des Barock, in Antologia delle Belle Arti, 25-26, 1985, S. 49).
