Der Sohn litauischer Eltern wurde in einer jüdischen Siedlung in Palästina geboren und zog mit seinen Eltern über Litauen nach Paris. Während der Besetzung von Paris durch die Nazis fertigte er in Abgeschiedenheit eine Vielzahl von Zeichnungen an, wurde aber erst 1960 in Nizza auf einer Ausstellung entdeckt und widmete sich fortan ausschließlich der Malerei, deren Thematik häufig in jüdischem Zusammenhang zu sehen ist.
