Louis Cousin ist uns unter vielen weiteren Namensvarianten überliefert: Luis Cosyn, Aloygio Gousin, Luigi Gentillo, Lodewyk Gentile, Lowis Gentil, Lewis Gentel, Ludowicus Gentili, Lucilio Gentiloni, Luigi Gentile, Luigi Primo, Aluvisium Gientilem, Primo Gentiel und Gentile da Bruxelles. Unser Gemälde zeigt eine nach links gerichtete Halbfigur einer jungen Frau, die auf ihrem Schoß einen kostbaren in Falten geworfenen Teppich trägt. In ihrer Hand ein Malerstab und Pinsel, von dem ihr einer soeben als Werkzeug dient, um ein Gemälde auszuführen. Auf ihrem Kopf ein wertvolles lapislazuliblaues Stirnband mit rotem Federputz. Man meint in dem Frauenkopf denjenigen aus einem anderen allegorischen Gemälde wiederzuerkennen, das eventuell ebenfalls Luigi Gentile zuzuordnen ist: Die Allegroie der Malerei in Brera, Mailand.
