Abels war nach der Militärzeit als Eisenbahner tätig und begann erst mit 70 Jahren zu malen. Seine Werke wurden systematisch vom Clemens Sels Museum in Neuss gesammelt.
Anmerkung:
Das Gemälde wurde 1977 in Böblingen mit dem 1. Preis der 16. Sonntagsmaler-Ausstellung ausgezeichnet.
