Beigegeben eine Expertise von Elisabetta Fadda, Università degli Studi di Parma.
Nach links gewandtes Bruststück des Paulus mit Schwert, dessen Griff, Parierstange und Klinge wirkungsvoll im von oben links einfallenden Licht reflektieren. Elisabetta Fadda schreibt das Gemälde, abweichend von dem auf Caravaggio hinweisenden Etikett auf der Rückseite, dem jungen Jusepe de Ribera zu und schlägt eine Datierung vor 1616, vor seinem Weggang nach Neapel, vor und untermauert diese These, das Bild sei in Rom entstanden, mit mehreren Vergleichsverweisen. Rahmen etwas schadhaft.Â
