(1271112) (11)

Abraham Brueghel (1631 - 1690),
and Guillaume Courtois (1628-1679)
TWO PUTTI WITH FLOWERS AT THE FOUNTAIN
Oil on canvas. Relined.
61 x 72 cm.

Enclosed an expert’s report by Dr Klaus Ertz, Lingen, 31 May 2021, attributing the painting to the two painters.

Flowers and landscape of the very well preserved painting are from the hand of Flemish-Italian painter Abraham Brueghel, while the figures are attributed to Italian history painter of French origin, Guillaume Courtois. Brueghel, whose collaboration with other artists is well known, met Courtois in Italy. The creation of the painting is therefore assumed to have taken place in Italy in the 1670s. A putto with a wreath of flowers in his hair and a pointing finger raised to the sky certainly has narrative significance, while it could possibly be a monthly picture.

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
