Luce verbrachte 1914 den Sommerurlaub mit seiner Familie in der Bretagne bei Kermouster und malte verschiedene Ansichten der Küste mit den typischen, bizarren Bäumen. Das vorliegende Bild ist eine Vorstudie zum großformatigen Gemälde „Vue de la côte à Kermouster“ von 1914-15 (WVZ, Bd. 3, S. 207, Nr. 931, Maße: 65 x 92 cm).
