Der Künstler zählt neben Asger Jorn (1914-1973), Constant (1920-2005), Corneille (1922-2010) und anderen zu den Begründern der Künstlergruppe „CoBrA“, die sich dem Ziel verschrieben hatte, den Expressionismus der Malerei noch einmal im Sinne einer neuen künstlerischen Position umzudeuten und ihn mit den Mitteln des emporkommenden Informel zu vereinen.

Provenienz:
Das Objekt wurde am 28. Dezember 2006 bei der Witwe von Karel Appel erworben. Die Kopie der Originalrechnung über 105.000 Euro liegt uns vor.

Ähnliche Assemblagen von Karel Appel ebenfalls aus dem Entstehungsjahr 2004 werden unter den Werknummern KA.2004.17, KA.2004.18, KA.2004.19 und KA.2004.21 geführt und stellen allesamt Akte in Kombination mit bewegten Astformationen im Vordergrund dar. Wie auch das hier angebotene Objekt, befinden sich die vier anderen Assemblagen laut Foundation in Privatbesitz.

Provenance:
The object was acquired from the widow of Karl Appel on 28 December 2006. The copy of the original invoice of 105,000 Euro is enclosed.
