Vor dunklem Grund die Kniestücke der Judith, welche soeben mit ihrer rechts neben ihr stehenden Magd Holofernes enthauptet hat. Das Haupt des Holofernes trägt sie in der linken Hand. Judith, eine fromme jüdische Witwe von erheblichem - offensichtlich in unserem Gemälde dargestellten - Reiz und Reichtum, hatte beschlossen, ihre Stadt zu retten, und enthauptete den trunkenen assyrischen Feldherrn.
Bereits mit 17 Jahren begab sich der Maler nach Rom, um bei Orazio Gentileschi (1563-1639) zu studieren. Später von Marcantonio Borghese (1598-1658) unter anderem mit Freskenmalerein für den Palazzo Borghese im Campo Marzio beauftragt. Zu den letzten seiner Werke gehört das Bildnis des Heiligen Viktor von 1654 im Palazzo Ducale von Urbino. Rest.

Das hier angebotene Gemälde erinnert thematisch an ein Gemälde, welches im Musée d‘Art et d‘Histoire in Genf in der Schweiz verwahrt wird (Inv. 1881-26). Es erinnert auch an das Gemälde „Lot mit seinen Töchtern“, welches in der Galleria Borghese in Rom verwahrt wird. Guerrieri arbeitete von 1614-1618 für Marcantonio Borghese in Rom. (1250146) (13)

In gilt, worm-eaten frame with ornamental décor.
Comparative examples:
The subject of the painting on offer for sale in this lot is reminiscent of a work held at the Musée d‘Art et d‘Histoire in Geneva in Switzerland (inv. no. 1881-26). It is also reminiscent of a painting tilted “Lot and his Daughters”, held at the Galleria Borghese in Rome. Guerrieri worked for Marcantonio Borghese in Rome from 1614-1618.
