Kupfer, getrieben, gegossen, geschnitten, feuervergoldet, weiß emailliert und mit teils figürlich teils ornamental geschliffener roter Koralle besetzt. Oktogonales, für Trapani typisches Andachtsbild mit radialen angedeuteten Kartuschen und symmetrischem ornamentalem Dekor in Korallenfragmenten auf dem vergoldeten Kupfergrund. Zentrale oktogonale Kartusche mit in Koralle geschnittener Figur der Jungfrau Maria, bekrönt durch zwei Engel. Das Gebilde umrandet durch gegossene, partiell weiß emaillierte und mit Korallenblüten und zu Blüten zusammengesetzten Fragmenten sowie plastisch ausgeformten Cherubimköpfen. Oben mittig mit gegossenem Aufhängering. Rückwärtig ornamental ziseliert.

A Trapani plaque of the Virgin Mary
53 x 36 x 5 cm.
Trapani, Sicily, mid-17th century.
Copper; wrought, cast, cut. White enamel, set with partially figural and ornamental cut red coral. As is typical for the Sicilian region of Trapani, this lot shows an octagonal devotional image with suggested radial cartouches and symmetrical ornamental décor in coral fragments on gilt-copper background. Central octagonal cartouche with figure of the Virgin Mary surmounted by two angels in carved coral. With a cast surround, partially enamelled in white, decorated with carved coral blossoms and fragments assembled in flowers, as well as three-dimensional cherub heads. Cast mounting ring at top centre. With ornamental chasing on the reverse.
