Paradebaldachin mit römischem Streitwagen und auf dem Streitwagen stehender Figur des Merkur. Verschiedene Personen sind daneben dargestellt und bezeichnet, darunter Gutenberg, Kopernikus, Bismarck, Fugger, Hermann von Salza, Michelangelo, Dürer, Platon und Konfuzius. Ein Genius sowie positive Eigenschaften wie Ausdauer und Fleiß sind dargestellt, aber auch die Trägheit, welche unter dem Wagen zerquetscht wird. Rückwärtige Architekturen, an Lübeck erinnernd.

Der Maler studierte ab 1919 an der Düsseldorfer Akademie. 1933 wurde er an die Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie als Professor für Monumentalmalerei berufen. (12215636) (13)
