Vor dunklem Grund zeichnet sich eine Dame höheren Alters ab, welche bei ihrer Handarbeit innehält. Ihre Hände ruhen auf einer einschübigen Schatulle, deren Oberfläche als Nadelkissen dient, ein Finger wird durch einen metallisch glänzenden Fingerhut geschützte. Die andere Hand hält eine Brille, mit deren Hilfe ein blaues Stück Stoff bearbeitet werden soll, welches unter der rechten Hand liegt. Bei der Fondazione Zeri sind vier weitere Portraits jeweils mit einer alten Dame mit Brille verzeichnet, wobei das vorliegende Bild jedoch einen Höhepunkt in dieser Werkgruppe darstellt, da es die Darstellung um die Begründung bereichert, weshalb die Brille benutzt wird.
