Die beiden Gemälde, betont hochformatig, zeigen jeweils vom linken bzw. vom rechten Bildrand hereinziehende, hochragende Säulenarchitektur mit kannelierten bzw. glatten Säulen eines römischen Tempels. Dahinter in einem Bild ein Monopteros mit dorischen Säulen und Kuppelverdachung bzw. im Gegenstück eine Pyramide, vergleichbar der Cestius-Pyramide in Rom. Zypressen, Verwitterungsbewuchs im Gemäuer sowie ein Ausblick auf einen Meereshorizont, vermitteln die südländische Stimmung. Die Figurenstaffage gezielt eingesetzt, mit an Steinblöcken lagernden Personen bzw. Badende an einem Gewässer. Die Stilistik ist ganz den Werken des genannten Locatelli zuzuordnen, wobei auch hier der Einfluss von Claude le Lorrain (1600-1682) erkennbar ist. (1181233) (5) (11)
