Der Maler steht im Halbbildnis in einem historischen Innenraum mit Renaissance-Kappe, breitem Halskragen und roter Scherpe.
Siebzehnjährig ging der Künstler an die Akademie in Brüssel, wobei er sich alsbald auf das Portrait- und Genrefach spezialisierte. Er war ab 1876 Mitbegründer der Künstlervereinigung „L'Essor“ in Brüssel, zusammen mit Louis-Gustave Cambier (1874-1949), Hendrick Lodewijk Permeke (1849-1912) und Franz Seghers (1849-1939). Werke seiner Hand wurden im Pariser Salon, im Münchner Glaspalast, aber auch in der Kunstaustellung in Berlin sowie in den Museen in Brüssel, Tournai etc. ausgestellt. (1181096) (11)
