Alabaster, Reste einer älteren polychromen Fassung. Das Relief zeigt das Haupt Johannes des Täufers auf dem Teller ruhend. Darunter ist Christus dargestellt, welcher soeben wiederaufersteht und flankiert wird, links durch den Heiligen Petrus und rechts durch den Heiligen Thomas Becket. Drei Cherubim überfangen die Szene. Auf mit rotem Samt bezogenem Display arrangiert.

Anmerkung:
Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Reliefs, wird dieser Typus für den häuslichen Andachtsgebrauch bestimmt gewesen sein.

Ein ähnliches Alabasterrelief mit weitestgehend intakter Fassung befindet sich in der Nottingham Castle Trust Collection. Ein Weiteres im V&A Museum in London. (11803171) (13)

Significant Nottingham alabaster relief


Dimensions without mountings: 26 x 17.5 x 4 cm.
Nottingham, 2nd half of the 15th century.

Alabaster, remains of old polychrome painting.

Notes:
Contrary to many other reliefs, this type of relief was intended for use as a home altar.

Comparative examples:
A similar alabaster relief with mostly intact polychromy is held at the Nottingham Castle Trust collection. A further example is held at the V&A Museum in London.
