CHINA FLOWER, 2007 Öl auf Leinwand.
120 x 100 cm.
Rechts unten signiert „Xu de Qi“.
Gerahmt.

CHINA FLOWER, 2007
Oil on canvas.
120 x 100 cm.
Signed lower right „Xu de Qi“.
Framed.
Xu De Qi studied at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Shandong Normal University and has exhibited extensively in Shandong, China and Turin, Italy. His China Flower Series, exhibited in RMCAD’s Rotunda building, reappropriates quintessential imagery from Western art, centered upon Andy Warhol’s iconic portraits of the Chinese Communist leader, Mao Zedong. The paintings include references to the work of Georgia O’Keefe, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse. Warhol’s Mao portraits, produced in 1973, reflect the media’s attention to the opening of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China in the early 1970s. Xu De Qi’s work thus returns the reflection, but in this case, from East to West.
