Römischer Marmortorso des jungen Dionysos

Die Skulptur geht auf griechisch-hellenistische Vorbilder zurück. Erhalten ist der Oberkörper und das linke Bein, mit Leistengegend und fehlendem Geschlecht, bis nahezu zum Knie. Der linke Arm und der rechte Unterarm fehlen. Über Schulter, Rücken und Leib ist das Ziegenfell gelegt, Attribut des Halbgottes, der von der Ziege Amalthea aufgezogen wurde. An der linken Schulter sowie am Rücken zeigt das Fell je einen Ziegenhuf. Auf den beiden Schultern fein gearbeitete Haarlocken. Ähnliche Dionysos-Statuen in größerer Ausführung befinden sich in der Villa Hadriana in Tivoli sowie im Palazzo Barberini in Rom. Eine große, nahezu vollständig erhaltene Statue, im 18. Jahrhundert ergänzt, hat König Friedrich II. 1742 für Schloss Sanssouci erworben.
Die Bildhauerarbeit in kristallinem Marmor zeigt beachtliche Meisterschaft.
Montiert auf einen Sockel in Säulenform in grün geädertem Marmor, mit Basis in Weißmarmor. Teilweise Sinterpatina. A.R.
