(1322041) (1) (11)
Jan Brueghel the Younger,
1601 Antwerp – 1678 Ibid.
STILL LIFE WITH MAGNIFICENT GOLD TAZZA, PRECIOUS ITEMS AND FLOWERS Oil on oak panel. Parquetted.
55.4 x 66.3 cm.
Accompanied by an expert’s report by Dr Klaus Ertz, Lingen.
The juxtaposition of spring and summer through the depicted flowers are interesting in this painting. The depiction of precious items, such as pearl necklaces, gold rings, brooches, link bracelets and gold coins in an open red and black lacquer chinoiserie casket, with the lid decorated with Chinese scenes placed next to it, are particularly appealing. The precision and delicacy in the rendition of the objects give the painting a special quality. The goldsmith’s work is reproduced in the finest detail, such as the two rings on the left, which are set with pyramid-cut diamonds. The very early documentation of a baroque tazza next to the chinoiserie objects makes the painting particularly interesting for the period in which it was created.
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
