Als Hauptfigur steht ein alter Bettler gebückt neben zwei Kindern, für die er um Almosen bittet, Frau und Töchterchen auf einer Bank. Das Kind im Vordergrund hält bereits eine Münze in der Hand, während ein Mann im Fensterrahmen ein weiteres Geldstück nach draußen reicht. Über dem Fenster ein Krug als Merkmal des Wirtshauses.
