Bedeutendes Ensemble der Dekorationsmalerei des 19. Jahrhunderts, in strahlenden Farben mit bewegtem Variantenreichtum, allegorische Figuren inmitten eines natürlichen Umfeldes zeigend und die Themen Erziehung, Überfluss, Verführung und Lust allegorisch thematisierend. Neben den von Wagner bekannten Gemälden, welche die süddeutschen Kirchen zieren und Fresken beispielsweise an Rathäusern, sind auch Dekorationsgemälde dokumentiert, wovon diese Gruppe besonders hervorgehoben werden darf.

Anmerkung.
Ferdinand Wagner, ein Schwabmünchner Historien- und Freskenmaler, wurde weit über die Grenzen der Stadt hinaus bekannt. Wagner, der überwiegend im Nazarener-Stil malte, freskierte unter anderem die Außenfassade des Fuggerhauses in Augsburg und arbeitete im Grimaldi-Palast in Monaco. Seine Fresken am Rathaus von Konstanz sind noch heute zu besichtigen.
