(1261132) (18)
Danish School, 19th century
INTERIOR WITH A BOY LOOKING AT A PAINTING Oil on canvas.
130 x 81 cm.
Monogrammed “CVH” lower right.
In magnificent frame.
The monogram may stand for the painter Carl Vilhelm Holsoe (1863-1935), who is portraying his son in the painting on offer for sale here. The quality of the painting, the depiction of the clothing and colouration would, however, also suggest a different painter, as for example Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864-1916). The painting appears to be slightly unfinished and could possibly be a large study for an even larger painting. With minor retouching.
Notes:
A stamp on the back of the canvas reveals that the present painting is painted on an original canvas by Paul Foinet.
