In einem braun gefliesten Innenraum, auf einer mit rotem Samt teilweise bedeckten Marmorplatte liegen ein rotes, gold durchwirktes Kissen, eine blaue faltenreiche Decke, goldverzierte Armteile einer Rüstung, ein ebenso reich gestaltetes Schild und ein schwarzer, gold verzierter Helm mit rotem Federbausch. Zudem eine geschlossene Runddeckeltruhe und zwei goldene Gefäße. Am Boden schließlich weitere Rüstungsteile, zu denen der prachtvolle Rüstungspanzer und eine halb bedeckte Trommel gehören. Linksseitig zudem, an eine Säule am Boden gelehnt, ein Degen mit goldenem Gurtband. Auf dieser Säule mit figurativem Relief, halb verdeckt durch einen roten Vorhang, ein bemaltes großes Schild. Über das Gesamtarrangement zieht sich zudem ein reich mit Goldfäden besticktes rotes Brokatvelum. Rest., wenige Retuschen.
Anmerkung:
Wie man am Beispiel dieses gekonnt in Szene gesetzten Stilllebens sehr gut erkennen kann, war Il Maltese aus gutem Grund für seine opulenten Teppiche und schweren Damast- und Brokatvorhänge bekannt, die oft den Hintergrund für andere Objektkompositionen bilden. Diese Art der Darstellung wurde zum Markenzeichen des Künstlers.
Der Künstler war auch bekannt als Francesco Noletti; oft wurde er mit seinem Spitznamen „Il Maltese“ bezeichnet. (1260642) (2) (18)
