Provenienz:
Bedeutende süddeutsche Privatsammlung.
Galerie Valentien, Stuttgart, 04. Juli 1996 an Eisenmann.
Anmerkung:
(12201611) (13)
Aristide Maillol,
1861 Banyuls-sur-Mer – 1944 Perpignan
BAIGNEUSE SE COIFFANT Bronze sculpture.
Height without base: 27 cm.
Plinth with monogram at the top.
Bronze casting with blackish-brown patina. Edition “Vollard” after a terracotta model created in 1898. After Maillol located to Paris in 1899 the art collector and publisher became very interested in his small sculptures. Vollard purchased several of his terracotta figurines in order to create bronze castings. One of these was a “Baigneuse se coiffant”. The Vollard casts neither show a foundry mark nor a limited edition number. The casting on offer for sale here with its faultless quality of the cast and its fine finish was certainly created by a renowned foundry. Mounted on separate marble base.
Provenance:
Important private collection, Southern Germany.
Galerie Valentien, Stuttgart, 4 July 1996 to Eisenmann.
Notes:
Another example of the Baigneuse can be found at the Nationalgalerie Berlin, the Kunsthalle Bremen, is part of the Collection Hahnloser, Winterthur and the Collection Hirschhorn, USA. A live-size version is today found in the gardens of the Louvre.
