Bronzeguss in kupfer- und messinghaltiger Legierung. Spuren einer partiellen Fassung oder Vergoldung. In der Tang-Dynastie zeigt sich eine wunderbare Verschmelzung von Skulpturen im klassischen chinesisch-buddhistischen Stil und den Einflüssen aus dem benachbarten Indien. Für die Tang-Zeit typisch ist der leichte S-Schwung des Körpers, welcher durch die eng anliegende gefältete Kleidung betont wird: so schwingt sich ein Schal von unterhalb des rechten Knies in einem Bogen bis über die rechte Schulter. Ketten und schmuckbesetzte Ketten betonen die Biegung und die Stellung der Beine, sodass das rechte Bein besonders augenfällig als Spielbein sichtbar wird. Die Bronze mit variantenreicher Patina, vollrund ausgearbeitet und auf einem modernen Museumssockel präsentiert.
Dargestellt ist ein Bodhisattva, ein Begleiter Buddhas, in Tribhanga-Pose, also mit leicht gebeugtem linken Bein. Seine Kleidung (Dhoti) reflektiert indische Einflüsse der Gupta-Periode (320-600 n. Chr.).
Provenienz:
Sammlung J. S. und C. T.-D., München, erworben in den 1970er - 1990er Jahren.

Bronze casting in copper and brass alloy; The patina shows many shades. Three-dimensional sculpture on modern base. Depiction of a Bodhisattva, a companion of Buddha, in tribhanga pose, with slightly bent left leg. His clothing (dhoti) shows Indian influences of the Gupta period (320-600 AD).
Provenance:
J. S. and C. T.-D. collection, Munich, purchased during 1970s - 1990s.
