Beigegeben Expertise Prof. Dr. Eduard A. Safarik, Rom, vom 20. August 2004.

Sebastiano Ricci,
1659 – 1734, attributed
THE STONING OF SAINT STEPHAN
Oil on canvas. Relined.
99 x 70.5 cm.
Accompanied by an expert’s report by Professor Dr. Ed. A. Safarik, Rome, dated 20 August 2004. The previous owner of the painting, Prince Joseph Clemens of Bavaria, collector and art historian, already presumed that the painting was created by followers of S. Ricci, while the enclosed expert's report by Professor Ed. A. Safarik mentions the artist Filippo Lauri (1623 Rome – 1694) which is difficult to understand. By contrast, a comparison of the painting with works by Ricci, among others The Deliverance of Saint Peter dated 1710 or the altar painting in The Abbey of Santa Giustina in Padua are convincing. A.R.
Provenance:
Imported from Britain by the former Galerie Einstein, Munich.
From the estate of HRH Prince Joseph Clemens of Bavaria (1862-1990, son of Prince Alfons of Bavaria and Princess Louise of Orléans.
Exhibitions:
