VASE WITH FLOWERS
Oil on canvas.
76 x 62 cm.
Accompanied by a copy of an expert's report by Mina Gregori.
In the present, impressive painting Monnoyer draws on an established motif: a monochrome, classically illustrated vase, which is positioned on a stone slab and is abundantly filled with the most diverse flowers. With its sophisticated colouration and the masterly executed light reflexes the work illustrates all too well Monnoyer's virtuosity. These artistic skills made him one of Europe's most popular flower painters at the end of the 17th century.
