Im dunstigen Abendlicht liegt am Canal Grande chimärengleich der neogotisch umgebaute Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti, dessen vorgelegte Pfähle sich ebenso im Gewässer spiegeln wie eine dem Betrachter entgegenfahrende von bunten Lichtern dominierte Gondel, die den Betrachter diagonal in das Bild hineinführt, an dessen hinteren Ende sich Santa Maria della Salute sanft vor dem Himmel abzeichnet.
