Der Mond über der Straße reiht sich in eine Reihe von Nachtdarstellungen ein, die Dix 1912/ 1913 in Dresden schuf. Er behandelt das Thema einer direkten Lichtquelle - hier der Mond - welche die nächtliche Szene überstrahlt. Das Licht der zentralen Mondsichel lässt die vagen Umrisse der seitlichen Häuserreihen und einer Baumallee erahnen.

The Moon above the Street is one of several nocturnal scenes which Dix created in Dresden in 1912/ 1913. He deals with the topic of a direct light source - here the moon - illuminating the dark street. The light of the central crescent moon only vaguely illuminates the outlines of the houses to either side as well as what appears to be an alley of trees.
