Das vorliegende Gemälde ist eines von einer ganzen Reihe von allegorischen Gemälden, die van de Venne im 17. Jahrhundert schuf. Ein Gemälde, welches 1632 datiert und signiert ist und ebenfalls auf einem solchen Rotulus betitelt ist „weelde forcht ellende“ wird in der Kunsthalle Bremen verwahrt. Ein weiteres Gemälde der Reihe mit Betitelung „’t Sijn ellendige beenen die Armoe / moetê draegen“ wird beim RKD in Den Haag unter Inv.Nr. 200124 dokumentiert. In einer niederländischen Privatsammlung wird ein weiteres Gemälde mit Rotulus und Benennung „Armoe soeckt List“ verwahrt. (1280784) (1) (13)

The painting on offer for sale in this lot is one of a series of allegorical paintings that van de Venne created in the 17th century. A signed painting dating to 1632 and titled on a similar rotulus “weelde forcht ellende” is held at the Kunsthalle Bremen. Another painting from the series titled “’t Sijn ellendige beenen die Armoe / moetên draegen” is listed at the RKD in The Hague with no. 200124 while a painting titled “Armoe soeckt” List on a rotulus is held in a Dutch private collection.
