Elfenbeintrinkhorn als Willkomm

Silberfuß, getrieben in manieristischer Art mit reichem Ranken- und Maskarondekor. Schaft in Elfenbein geschnitzt mit verschlungenen Wesen, wie Schlange, Krokodil, Delfin, Löwen und Tigern. Aufmontiertes Horn, das dichte Kampfrelief von Tieren, auch mit Hirsch, Widder und Ziegenböcken, wiederaufnehmend. Die Spitze des Horns mit Silbermontierung. Minimal rest.

Provenienz:

Ivory drinking horn

Height: 50 cm.
Stand with pseudo hallmarks in historicising from, one coat of arms and another with an inset letter „E“ and mis-struck export hallmarks.
Germany, 19th century.

Silver foot; wrought in Mannerist style with opulent vine and mascaron décor. Carved ivory shaft with entwined animals, e.g. a serpent, crocodile, dolphin, lion and tiger. Mounted dense horn animal relief with deer, ram, billy goat. The tip of the horn mounted with silver. With minimal restoration.

According to information of the previous owner object purchased in the 1980s for 245,000 DM at Kunstmesse Munich.
