Antonio Rossellino,
1427 – 1479/81

Berühmt wurde Rossellino vor allem für seine Kreationen in Terrakotta, welche sich durch ein feines Basrelief auszeichneten, wie es auch hier, in feinem bronzierten Relief, auf uns überkommen ist. Ein original Marmorrelief von Antonio Rossellino befindet sich in der Eremitage in Sankt Petersburg und dieses wurde mehrfach wiederholt in Bronze, Stuck und Terrakotta. Weitere Stuckreliefs befinden sich im Museum Jacquemart-André, Paris sowie im Museum Horne, Florenz. Ein Relief gleichen Themas in Terrakotta befindet sich im Victoria und Albert Museum, London.

Der als Rossellino bekannte italienische Bildhauer wurde in Settignano bei Florenz geboren. In Florenz arbeitete er z.B. an der Tumba des Neri Capponi in der Kirche Santo Spirito. Beeinflusst wurde er von Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1443), Donatello (um 1386-1466) Michelozzo di Bartolommeo (1396-1471/72) und Luca della Robbia (1400-1428). (12108710) (13)

Rossellino was predominantly famous for his creations in terracotta, which are characterized by fine bas-reliefs, as is the case in the work on offer for sale here, a fine bronzed relief. An original marble relief by Rossellino is held at The State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg which was, however, repeated several times in bronze, stucco and terracotta. Further stucco reliefs are held at the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris and the Horne Museum, Florence. A relief of the same subject in terracotta is held at the Victoria und Albert Museum, London.
